I believe the USDA lists a standard deviation in density for tested woods at +/- 10%. As for different grades effecting weight, I suppose that would depend on the species. With softwood species such as spruce, the higher grade old growth pieces I’m sure have a higher weight, but that may not be true with other kinds of woods, such as some hardwoods.
