Still, given Lee Valley's track record, I won't be surprised if your new tail vise is even better (although I doubt you can bring it to market for $135 today!). So, if you have a use for this old tail vise, and your new one is as good as it sounds, I'm sure we can work out a deal.

Pipe Clamp Vise | Popular Woodworking Magazine

12-03-2020·This may sound bad, but it’s not a deal-breaker for a tail vise. Up and down racking and rotation aren’t a problem as long as you don’t use the vise for support; side to side racking isn’t an issue because a round bench dog can rotate to compensate for this movement. As you’d expect from Lee Valley, this is a well-made tool.

The Traditional Tail Vise - Followup

21-12-2010·The Lee Valley tail vise is metal but it is mounted under the bench and won't contact the work. Since I haven't used either of these vises I don't know if they have any practical advantage over my vise. However that my argument is for a tailvise, not for any specific tailvise mechanism.

The Argument for a Traditional Tail Vise

16-12-2010·Lee Valley just introduced a mini-wagon vise. While these approaches allow you to clamp lots of long things and are reasonably versatile I don't think they are nearly as useful as a traditional "L" shaped shoulder or tail vise. (Lee valley also has some funky quick-release tail vise hardware).

STL199: In Defense of Tail Vises - FineWoodworking

27-09-2019·In reference to the tail vise question, here’s my take. In my first workbench, I integrated a wagon vise into the end. Maybe I would’ve liked it better if it was a true tail vise, but I ended up not using it all that much. So in my second workbench that was more or less of the same design I opted not to put a tail vise in.
